Alright, Canadian thrifters. If you want to shop secondhand without leaving the house, this list is for you.
Shopping secondhand online is just not the same as digging through a chaotic church basement for a $5 wool sweater. The line between thrift, consignment, and vintage resale is already fuzzy in person, and online? It’s a whole grey area. The truth is, an online thrift stores NEEDS to curate to even exist. Every item needs to be photographed, inventoried, measured, listed, packaged, and shipped. Nobody is doing all that for a 50-cent trinket.
So, my definition of “thrift store” is a little looser when we’re talking online. The qualifications?
Bonus points if they support a social cause, but that’s not a dealbreaker. Let’s get into it.
P.S. I’m happy to be proved wrong if this is in fact *not* a complete list. By all means, send me your suggestions for other online thrift stores in Canada!
Poshmark may be an obvious one for avid thrifters but if you are new to online thrifting then you’ve gotta check it out. Anyone can sell on Poshmark so it is a mash up of resellers and individuals just trying to declutter their wardrobe. There are pages and pages of items to sort through but enough filters that you can sift through the chaos with some careful strategy.
Tip: Use my referral code (WEARETHRIFTERS) when signing up to save C$15 on your first order.
No, Poshmark itself is not Canadian. Poshmark is American. But when you shop on Poshmark in Canada, you are shopping from the closets of Canadians. So while the individual seller is Canadian, Poshmark also benefits from the transaction fees on the purchase.
Starluv is a new one to me but I was pleasantly surprised with how many people are using it. Why did no one tell me about this sooner?! It’s basically like Poshmark but just for Canadians. Shipping is all handled through prepaid labels provided by Starluv but you can choose alternative couriers to Canada Post (you know, just in case there’s a strike). And free shipping for orders $25+! Another key difference is that sellers can also offer local pickup and you can search by location if you want to avoid shipping all together.
Yes, Starluv is proudly Canadian and woman-led.
Depop is another option for online thrift stores in Canada. It’s made up of individual sellers (some reselling as a business) and tends to skew more young and trendy. You can follow sellers and “like” items you’re interested in. It’s a mix of everyday second-hand clothing and cool vintage finds.
No, Depop is not Canadian. It is based in the UK. You can however choose to shop only from Canadians through Depop.
Thredup is an American company but offers shipping to Canadians. You can find a mix of everyday brands and higher-end pieces. You don’t have to deal with sellers directly, which makes it really simple to shop. Unfortunately as Canadians we don’t get free shipping or returns buuuuut that’s kind of the way thrift stores work anyways.
Tip: You can filter by material! Cashmere, cotton, linen, silk, wool and more!
No, Thredup is an American company.
Koop is a Canadian online thrift store that operates sort of similar to ThredUp. Users can ship in clothes to be resold by Koop. The good news for shoppers is you deal with Koop for shipping and returns (yes, returns!). The clothing for sale on Koop tends to be more modern brands with less curation. Browsing is simple with filters for size, colour, brand and material.
Yes, Koop is a Canadian company.
Etsy is another go to website for online thrift stores in Canada. Though Etsy truly does skew more ‘vintage reseller’ so expect more premium pricing (but with that, more quality assurance and attention to detail).
Tip: Filter for Canadian sellers if you want to keep it local
No, Etsy is an American company. You can choose to only shop from Canadian sellers but Etsy will still profit off the transaction fees.
P.S. The link above is an affiliate link. If you make a purchase, I may earn a small commission. It’s a win/win/win.
Does Facebook Marketplace count as a thrift store? Not reaaaaaaally but it’s definitely second hand shopping and absolutely a treasure hunt with potential for big deals! The Facebook Marketplace algorithm is top notch so if you don’t find exactly what you are looking for while searching, you should at least click around on a few relevant listings. You will be rewarded with custom recommendations each time you browse. I know it’s not exactly advisable to ship and request shipping I have shipped with success (vet the sellers and assume the risk).
I feel silly linking you to Facebook but uhhh, here ya go!
Absolutely not. But unless you are literally driving across the border to make purchases, you will likely be shopping from Canadian Sellers.
Ebay is the OG website for online thrift stores in Canada. But admittedly I’ve never really gotten the hang of it as a Canadian. Shipping costs always seem absurd (and I’m the kind of person who will absolutely still make an online purchase even if there are surprise shipping costs). Maybe I’m just not using it right?
No, Ebay is not Canadian. You can choose to only shop from Canadian sellers but Ebay will still profit off the transaction fees.
The Real Real is more of a luxury online thrift store. If you are looking for bargains on second hand designer clothes then this is your spot. Designer clothing doesn’t always equal quality so it’s important to be diligent with purchases to make sure you aren’t overspending on a dud (but let’s face it, that happens anyways!). While not based in Canada, it is available for Canadian online thrift shoppers. Not without import duties though so be sure to factor that into the cost when purchasing.
No, it is not Canadian.
This is basically an online platform for various US based Goodwill locations to post their stuff for sale. It is up to the individual seller whether they will ship their items to Canada. While a lot of the listings are not available to Canadians, you can use the “advanced” search settings to filter by just the items that can be shipped up here.
No, Goodwill is not Canadian. Only some items are available to ship to Canada.
Location: Kelowna but ships across Canada and the US
It’s a Deal is a family-run online thrift store based in Kelowna (though with no brick and mortar location). Although based in the Okanagan, they ship both across Canada and to the United States. The online website is well-stocked with reasonable prices for a second hand online retailer.
It is Canadian! Hooray for Canadian online thrift stores.
Location: Edmonton (in store pickup only unless shopping on Etsy)
Bissel Thrift is an in-person thrift store based in Edmonton that also has an online shop. The shop on their website has items only available for in-store pickup but they also operate an Etsy shop that ships nationwide. The Bissel Thrift supports Bissell Centre, an Edmonton organization raising funds to support community programs for people who are experiencing poverty and homelessness..
While Bissel Thrift is Canadian, the only way to get delivery outside of Edmonton is through their Etsy shop and Etsy is not Canadian.
Location: Toronto, ships internationally
Double Take YSM is an in-person second hand store in Toronto that also operates an online shop that offers nationwide shipping (and beyond!). The curation is top notch but the prices remain quite reasonable. All proceeds go towards Yonge Street Mission community programs.
It is Canadian! Based in Toronto, Double Take YSM ships across the country (and beyond).
Location: Toronto, ships internationally
The Pegasus Shoppe is another Toronto-based thrift store that also operates an online thrift store. All funds from purchases goes towards Pegasus Community Project to help provide adults with developmental disabilities meaningful activities and community engagement.
The Pegasus Shoppe is Canadian.
Location: Winnipeg, ships across Canada
Love to Thrift is the online shop operated by the Kildonan MCC Thrift Shop in Winnipeg. If you are lucky enough to live in Winnipeg, you can choose local pickup but they also ship nationwide. The shop is fairly well stocked with clothing and even has some housewares available for sale. MCC Thrift supports relief, development, and peace efforts worldwide
Yes, Love to Thrift is Canadian and ships nationwide.
Location: Vancouver but ships worldwide
Community Thrift and Vintage has a few brick and mortar locations around Vancouver but also operates as an online thrift store. Garments that make it to their website tend to be more niche vintage items so if that’s what you’re after then definitely check them out. Community Thrift & Vintage is a not for profit, social enterprise and all profits are donated to the PHS Community Services Society
It sure is Canadian.
Location: Edmonton, ships worldwide
New Life Clothing is veering hard into the curated vintage category, but that’s ok! The curation is vintage and quirky and the pricing is not bad. If you are local to Edmonton you can even book a private shopping appointment so you can try things on before purchasing.
Yes! Based in Edmonton, New Life Clothing ships nationwide and beyond.
Location: Ottawa but ships across Canada and in the US
Fabrick Collective is an online thrift store in Canada for baby and kids clothing. Not just for baby clothing but also for gear, books and toys. A one stop shop for all your second hand kid stuff! If you are based in Ottawa they offer free local pickup and delivery with flat rate shipping to the rest of Canada (and the US!)
Yes! Based in Ottawa, Fabrick Collective ships across Canada and the US.
That’s the list! Now you’ve got plenty of places to shop secondhand without leaving your house. You can find some great deals, but don’t expect everything to be as cheap as your local thrift store.
If you know any other online thrift shops in Canada, let me know! I’m always looking to add more. Happy shopping!
